Natural Energy + Weight Loss Drink

I really have developed a bit of a love affair with these little chia seeds. I have found myself craving this drink each and every morning. It honestly couldn’t be simpler to make and once you hear why I drink it you will, I am certain, join the chia love train right along with me. Woot! Woot!
So here is the thing, I resent calling this a “recipe” as it’s the simplest thing to do, but we can call it a recipe for weight loss. There, does that have your attention?
This miraculous thing happens when you consume chia seeds. They fill you up.
When added to water chia seeds create a gelatinous substance. Researches believe that when consumed, this gel forming also takes place in the stomach which creates a barrier between carbohydrates and digestive enzymes. This slows the conversion of carbohydrates into sugar, meaning the energy from food is released steadily resulting in improved endurance capacity, and increasing sensation of satiety.
A long way to tell you, chia helps you feel full. There.
Of course, it’s not just empty satiety. Chia seeds are an excellent source of protein, essential fatty acids, and fiber, and they help your body stay hydrated. (which is really important for me, since I’ve been told I was a camel in a past life. Seriously.) This is a fantastic beverage for a quick energy boost. If you use coconut water rather than water you really have natures energy drink, ditch that colored sports drink crap!
Try this a few mornings next week and let me know how it goes. Perhaps you won’t feel the urge to reach for that 10am candy bar. Wait, none of you ACTUALLY eat candy bars, do you?
- 2 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of lime juice
- 1 tablespoon of chia seed
- a dash of stevia (or sweetener of your choice)
- In a pitcher or mason jar combine water, lime juice, and drop of stevia.
- Add chia seeds, stir well.
- Allow to sit for 10 minutes
- Drink this baby down!
