Abra interviews Karen ……..

Abra: Ok, let’s get the details out of the way. Give me the goods; where did you study?
What do you love most about this industry?
Karen: I am a certified holistic health practitioner and master herbalist from the Global College of Natural Medicine, and a certified nutrition consultant from the Global College of Alternative Medicine. I am a regular speaker at many Los Angeles health events and conventions and have helped hundreds of clients from all over the world lose weight at a Live in Fitness camp here in Los Angeles. What I love most about this industry is that you never stop learning. I love bringing my clients the latest in cutting edge nutrition science. I have a B.F.A. from Emerson College in Performing Arts. I am a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild, American Federation of Television/Radio Artists, and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
Abra: Who inspires you in the wellness industry? Who do you look to for mentor ship?
Karen: The first person who comes to mind is Dr Andrew Weil. I love his east-meets-west philosophy on nutrition and the ingenuous way he explains it to others. I’ve done a few of his group seminars and always leave with a ton of knowledge and renewed excitement for the wellness industry.
Abra: If every client left your office with just ONE nugget of wisdom what would it be?
Karen: Eat REAL food in the right portion sizes and you will never have to “diet.”
Abra: What do you think people would find most surprising about your health/eating habits?
Karen: As you know, Abra, I have this strange obsession with hot wings and blue cheese! Whenever I share that with someone they never believe me. They are delicious!! The thing is, I am human and a very normal eater. I love my vegetables and fruits and always fill my plate with them, but I also enjoy some surprisingly “non-nutritionist” like food once in awhile. My motto is…”it’s what you’re NOT eating” that will make or break your success, so the occasional indulgence is absolutely fine, as long as you thoroughly enjoy it.
Abra: Yes, I totally agree. I would encourage any of your clients to ask you to share your “chicken salad mindless eating” story. Maybe that will have to be one of our videos!
Okay….. final question.
What is your favorite memory of you and I sharing a meal together??
Karen: Well it would have to be that greasy spoon diner we had to eat in for three days in a row after getting stuck in a snow storm in Van Horn, Texas. I remember you and I trying to pick something different from the menu every day because there were only about 4 options. Somehow, we made it work, and I don’t think I ever laughed more (or cried more) than on that trip.
Abra; Ahhh, agreed! Great memory. If memory serves we ate a lot of cajun catfish.
